古时的戏子，被视为下等人，所以一般红船组织及戏班，给人的感觉，是由一班没出色的人所组成的聚脚点，奔走四处靠卖艺为生。但随着社会的转变，戏子给人的印象及声誉，不但提高很多，而且出色的更被冠以「明星」美誉，故常时一般青年男女，均希望能置身于「明星」的行列。 其中一间天山影片公司招考新人，同期有两位较为突出，梅妹（李司祺）是天山公司在广州招考，性格率直，精灵乖巧；梅剑仙（黄韵诗）则在澳门招考的，但因出身寒微，养成敏感性格。 梅妹与梅剑仙同姓梅，彼此投缘，故被影圈人士称为「双妹唛」，梅妹比梅剑仙大一岁，故人称「大梅姐」与「细梅姐」，两人的电影事业如日方中，成为电影界红人，然而名利之争，使他俩面和心不和，更因二人同时爱上一风度翩翩的纨姱子弟靳玉褛（黄锦燊），怨从此更深。 二人不断在事业上，爱情上明争暗斗，而今这两位走红影坛廿多年的天皇巨星，终于销声匿迹。。When he learns his days are numbered old count Hervé de Kéraudren decides to hide in a secret alcove and to die there, just to annoy his heirs. As a result of his body not being found the latter will have to wait for five years until they can inherit the count's money. Very upsetting indeed, all the more as they are required to keep up the Kéraudren estate in the meantime. To collect money, nephews and nieces organize a Son et Lumière show at the manor while busily looking for the missing corpse. But, unexpectedly, they get killed in turns. Murders or accidents?
